Kates EP was released in 2007 We have recently shot a video on digital and 8mm film of the last song on the EP "Blue Light",which is available via Last FM. The EP is picking up good reviews and plays around the World, "Goes without saying - recommended"-Losing today "Promising and highly enjoyable"- Psychevanhetfolk "The voice fits perfectly with the classic melodies"-Rockline.it "Kate Bannatyne - new to us and we suspect to her label Backwater as this is her debut release . Again teaming up with Chris, Kate is further accompanied by Laurie on drums and Michael on sax for a deliciously silken pop fayre that should surely appeal to the old school Radio 2 audience. Four tracks feature, within their collective grooves an intoxicating blend of subtle jazz accents and lightly smouldering soul pop ruminates recalling in terms of texture, stature and mood - the early career catalogue of Newcastle's Kitchenware label a la the Daintees, Kane Gang et al spliced throughout with the sophisticated essence of Southport's Panda Gang. Kate's vocals arc sumptuously through the scales one minute carefree and unbound (the sweetly exotic soft topped 'Summer') the next alluringly contorting through a smoking late night jazz café routine ('Zealous') all the time the melodies flex and swirl (check out the nimble Marr-esque faraway bitter sweet hue on 'Ticket') providing both a perfect foil and a rich soft back dropping canvas for Kate to work her magic upon. That said it's left until the parting cut the 60's inspired 'Blue Light' to reveal the secret shine at play here, utilising a simple sea shanty like dynamic bled through with shimmering Corsicana style riffs this spectral almost disorientating spell casting slice of surreal supernatural pop nibbles loosely at Mary Hopkins' 'Those where the days' with Kate's double tracked vocals towards the close assuming an almost siren like bewitchment. Goes without saying - recommended."
